Through the years of researching Moynahans from Kerry, Ireland, I have come across so many different surname spellings:
Moynahan, Moynihan, Moynehan, Moynaghan, Monahan, Monaghan, Monahan, Monaham, Monihan, Monehan, Moinahan, Moinahen, Minihane, Minahan, Minihan, Minehan, Monyhan, Moneyhan, Mynahan, Mynihane, (and many other spelling variants)
An Irish surname of great antiquity, "Moynahan" originates from the Irish language Ó Muimhneacháin, which literally translates as "male descendant of the Munsterman". The surname is most popular in Counties Cork and Kerry, in Ireland which form part of the province of Munster.
